Joining our Trust

Why join the Tennyson Learning Community?

Prior to accepting an application to join our learning community, we will carry out robust due diligence and assess a school’s suitability to complement the vision of the Trust. In this way, we will be clear about the contributions each school will make as well as the challenges they may present. All schools will have lots to offer or face difficulties at some stage. This process will be efficient and non-judgemental and will be led by qualified specialist staff with robust school improvement and financial planning experience led by a highly qualified executive.

It will not be an Ofsted-style inspection, although its regulatory framework, school staffing structures and school finances will be important factors. Amongst the many advantages of joining our Trust are the following:

  • Strong support for the existing school’s ethos and philosophy where it is making a positive difference to outcomes for the pupils

  • Better opportunities to share best practice and professional development across all phases

  • Increased opportunities for children to work with other local schools, broadening their social horizons

  • Improved staff retention, deployment and promotion; keeping good staff within the Trust who might otherwise further their career elsewhere, with a good, strong base for developing leadership

  • Increased economies of scale, freedoms and efficiencies in the running of central services such as finance (purchasing and resourcing), HR, and premises

  • Schools retaining their distinctive character and identity, ethos, aims and values with parental, community and staff representation on the local governing body

A meeting with staff and governors can be arranged to explain the provenance of the Trust, its values and ambition for local primary schools. The following aspects will be presented in the most suitable format and commensurate with the needs of the school and its community:

  • The ethos, vision and aims of the Trust and its commitment to the community

  • The structure of governance, the executive and delegation to Trust schools

  • The cost of school improvement and effectiveness within the Trust

  • Consultation with the local authority, the workforce, parents and the community

  • The continuing employment rights as well as the opportunities presented to staff

  • The process of application and the due diligence expectations on schools expressing an interest to join the Trust
