Tennyson Primary School

Tennyson Road Primary School

Tennyson Road has a strong record as a National Support School (NSS) and a highly regarded facilitator of effective practice across a number of schools in the region, improving teaching and learning and leadership when a particular approach has been shown to work.

The school’s approach has matured over time and, in close partnership with the local authority, the Luton First Teaching School Alliance, and other academies, this has ensured that no school supported has been left behind with improved performance secured. We have a number of case studies to share with interested schools.

The NSS approach has helped to develop future leaders, and we will provide a greater array of middle and senior leadership positions as we point to the opportunities provided across the Trust.

The success of the school has been noted by Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for School Standards, in letters to the school in 2017 and 2018. In addition, the SSAT Educational Award 2017 recognised Tennyson Road for pupil attainment in 2017. Results in 2019 have improved further still.

The school continues to deliver outstanding results, placing the school in the top 2 per cent of schools in England in 2018 in terms of progress between key stage 1 and key stage 2 (top 3 per cent in 2017). In addition, all pupils were working at the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics (the top 0.1 per cent of schools overall).

In Early Years, the Minister of State congratulated the school regarding the outstanding achievement of the pupils in the 2018 teaching of phonics, with 95 per cent achieving the expected standard, placing the school in the top 9 per cent of all primary schools in the country
